Karen Handly

Karen Handly went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2011, after losing her battle with brain cancer.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Heikkila Funeral Chapel, McCall.

She was born on March 12, 1937, to Kenneth and Aleta Holgate in Modesto, Calif.

After graduating from Downey High School in Modesto she attended Modesto Junior College for two years, then onto Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind.

There she met and married Carroll Handly. The couple moved to Longview, Texas, where Karen worked at various jobs helping Carroll through LeTourneau College.

After college they settled in central California, living in Manteca for three years, then moving to Fowler for the next 27 years.

In Fowler, Karen turned her ceramics hobby into a retail business, where she offered training classes, sold finished pieces, and taught for various senior citizens programs.

In 1993 the Handlys moved to Grand Junction, Colo., where she again opened a ceramics business. Karen was always involved in church music programs wherever she lived, and displayed her excellent talent of piano playing.

The Handlys retired in 2003 and moved to McCall to be near family. In McCall, Karen was involved in the McCall Memorial Hospital volunteer program, and was a member of the kitchen staff. For a time she worked for both Intermountain and American greeting card companies, displaying greeting cards in two local stores.

Karen was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church in McCall, again using her musical talent playing keyboard for worship services.

Preceding her in death was her father, Kenneth, mother Aleta, and sister Rosalene Holgate of Modesto, Calif.

Karen is survived by her husband, Carroll Handly; daughter Carri (Shawn) Bennett; and grandchildren Zack, Elizabeth, Rebekah, Naomi, Abigail and Ben Bennett, all of McCall.
