Timothy James Cochrane’s battle with colon cancer ended May 15, 2011, at his home in Eagle surrounded by is family.

A memorial service and celebration will be held Friday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel and Community Center in Edwards, Colo.

Tim was born to parents Thomas and Doris Cochrane March 8, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, but he would tell you he hails from Buffalo, N.Y., which is where he grew up.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967 serving for four years including two tours in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam, Tim attended UC Irvine in California.

In 1971 he welcomed a daughter Tracie to the world. Tim moved to Colorado in the late 1970s and ultimately ended up in Vail.

Tim married his best friend who became his wife of 33 years, Betsy, in October 1978. Together they had three daughters, Erin, Mary and Megan.

He was very proud of all of his daughters’ accomplishments and was always their number one supporter.

Tim’s career consisted of multiple hospitality positions before becoming the director of the Eagle Valley Chamber Commerce in 1999. He loved bringing new events and business to the Eagle and Gypsum area and had a passion for community service.

He relocated to McCall for 1-1/2 years in 2009 to work with the McCall Area Chamber of Commerce, returning to Eagle only after being diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2010.

Tim’s other passion was for the outdoors, which lead to his involvement in the Mountain Rescue Association.

Tim was instrumental in founding the Vail Mountain Rescue Group which he was an active part of until the day of his death.

He had many other community service related accomplishments including the Silver Plaque Award in 2008 for his lifetime of service in mountain rescue. He also helped found the Eagle County Ambulance District.

In addition to wife, Betsy, and daughters, Tracie (Derk) Rodgers, Erin (Nate) Ivie, Mary and Megan, Tim is survived by sister, Judy Pearce, brother Jeff (Theresa) Cochrane, brothers-in-law Robert (Gayle) Barnes and David (MaryHelen) Barnes, one grandson Drake Rodgers, six nieces and nephews, multiple cousins and a world of friends.

Tim is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Doris Cochrane, and mother and father-in-law David and Mary Barnes.

In lieu of cards and flowers please support your local mountain rescue group or make a donation to the Vail Valley Charitable Fund in Tim’s name.
