James “Jim” Smith

James “Jim” Smith, 76, formerly of Greenleaf and McCall, entered into rest at 2:50 a.m. Nov. 7, 2011, following a stroke on Sunday, Nov. 6.

At Dad’s request, we will not hold formal services. A gathering of family and close friends will be held in his honor Sunday, Nov. 13, at his daughter’s home, followed by a private burial in Sioux City, Iowa, next to his mother and father at a later date.

Dad was born on Dec. 1, 1934, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Isaac Levi Smith and Norma Elfrida Tiller Smith of Sioux City.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy as a fire engineer in the Korean War from 1952 through 1955.

He is survived by his daughters, Jamie Chapman, her husband Gary and children Kaitlyn and Ashlee Nicolosi; Paula Bartlett, her husband Steve and her children Amber, Caleb, Rachel and Madison; Angela DelCurto, her husband Dan and her children Chelsie Kaska and Aaron Smith; a son Sam Inman and his children Ryan, Kim, Katie, Luke and Sarah; nephews Dave and Shelly Riessen, Rick and Keiko Riessen, Irene Thompson and Bobby and Jojo Talbott.

Dad was preceded in death by both parents when he was a young boy, followed by his sister Phyllis Thompson and her son Danny Thompson and Dad’s dog, Charlie.

We would like to thank the staff at Karcher Estates and Heart and Home Hospice for their loving care and support of our Dad. Special thanks to Maria! You set an honorable standard for nursing!

Soaring with eagles, dancing with angels and in your parents’ arms once again! We love you, Dad!
