George Michael Seeds

George Michael Seeds, 82, of McCall, passed away peacefully at his home in McCall on Sept. 14, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at his home, 954 Valley Rim Rd., McCall. Anyone who knew George is encouraged to drop by anytime between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to share memories and friendship.

He was born to William and Agnes Seeds on May 26, 1929, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, before his family settled in Los Angeles, Calif. During a difficult childhood marked by the Great Depression and World War II, George came to believe that education was his way to a better life.

Years of rigorous study resulted in his graduation from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1955. During this time he married MaryAnn Horan, and together they had two children.

After 15 years in medical practice in Lompoc, Calif., and the dissolution of his first marriage, he moved back to Los Angeles in 1970.

Early in this new life he met his second wife of 24 years, Norma Joan Mitchell, and became a father to her son.

With Norma’s support, he received his master of social psychiatry from the University of California Los Angeles in 1974. He went on to an acclaimed 23-year psychiatric practice.

In addition to career and family, George’s main passion was travel. Together with Norma they toured Europe and China extensively along with many other destinations.

However, in 1994 Norma died unexpectedly and three lonely years later George retired from his practice and, with his eldest son, began to travel again, including four years touring North America before settling in McCall in 2005.

George will be remembered for his youthful sense of fun and wonder as well as his kind and caring manner, keen insights, and irreverent sense of humor.

In addition to his many friends, George is survived by his daughter, Adrienne Thomas; his sons, George Seeds II and Robert Mitchell; and his numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the McCall Senior Citizens Center, 701 N 1st St., McCall, ID 83638, in the name of George Michael Seeds.
