Viola (Val) Cuthbert King

Viola Cuthbert King, 92, of Cascade, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Cloverdale Cemetery in Boise. Services under the direction of the Heikkila Funeral Chapel.

Viola Speer was born to Fred and Helen Speer on Jan. 29, 1919 in Maxwell, Neb.

She grew up surrounded by a large extended family and graduated from high school in Nebraska.

As a young woman she moved to Idaho and met and married Jess Cuthbert. They had a son and daughter and she spent the next 20 years loving and supporting her family.

Jess died in 1970. Val married Paul King in 1974 and they spent many happy years building and enjoying their cabin in Cascade and being huge supporters of the Boise State football and basketball teams.

Family gatherings were usually scheduled around football games and she spent many happy hours in her seats on the 35-yard line. Paul died in 2000 and Mom always had two tickets so she could talk the grandkids into taking her to games.

Mom lived on the Plantation Golf Course and even though she never golfed, she loved sitting on her deck and waving to the golfers who came by on the golf path.

She usually had a beautiful live wreath hanging on the outside of her house that the lady golfers always commented on and enjoyed.

At the age of 91 Mom was no longer able to live on her own and moved to Cascade to stay in extended care at the Cascade Medical Center.

Because of their skilled and loving care she was able to enjoy another year and a half watching her great-grandkids grow and still enjoying watching BSU on television.

We will be forever grateful to all of the staff of Cascade Medical Center for the love and compassion they showed her.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Don and Fred Jr., her husbands Jess and Paul and her granddaughter Julie.

She is survived by her son Sid Cuthbert in California, her daughter, Ann Young (Gary) in Cascade, her grandchildren Angie Young, Suzie Tino (Tony), Kathy Hull (Steven), Mandy Clendenen (Ross), Cody Cuthbert and Karrie Sexton (Michael) and great-grandchildren Allicia, Josh, Destiny, Hayden, Addison and Jesse; and by her niece Chris Kelley.
