Stevie Hava Erickson

Stevie Hava Erickson was born to Payette Mello and Ben Erickson on the evening of Aug. 10, 2011, in Boise.

She weighed 9 pounds, 11 ounces and was 22 inches long. She was a beautiful, perfect little girl with her Daddy’s eyes, brows and lips and her Mama’s long back and crooked toes. She had a prolapsed cord and died during labor.

On the morning of Aug. 11, we brought our baby home to our family’s land. Surrounded by our loved ones, we laid her to rest on the ridge where we were married.

Stevie was cuddled in her blanket made by her grandma, placed in a wooden box handcrafted by her uncle and grandfather, and buried in a grave hand dug by all her uncles and both her grandfathers.

We laid her down one final time on the ridge overlooking the mountains at the site that celebrates the love from which she came. It was a beautiful ceremony with Stevie surrounded by her family who loves her dearly and by whom she will be sorely missed.

In the fall we will plant a red maple in this special place as a reminder that in life, that which is most beautiful is often preciously fleeting and we will celebrate our little one each year with the changing season and the falling red leaves. She is forever our baby girl.

We would like to thank our friends and community who have been so amazing in their love and support during this difficult time.
