Marcia “Mayhem” Jean Bier

How does one define a person after they have passed? By the way that person lived her life.

“The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth. It is obvious that man is himself a traveler; that the purpose of this world is not ‘to have and to hold’ but “to give and serve.’ There can be no other meaning.” - Sir Wilfred T. Grenfell

Marcia Jean Bier, 61, of Rockledge, Fla., died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cocoa Beach, Fla.

A celebration of Marcia’s life was held at Rotary Park, Rockledge, Fla., on June 26, 2011. No other services are planned at this time.

The oldest child of Gordon and Willodean (Billie) Cofield was born in Duluth, Minn., on Dec. 9, 1949.

Marcia graduated from Hibbing High School in Hibbing, Minn., in 1967. She went on to further her education at Hibbing Community College and graduated with her RN degree in 1982.

Marcia devoted her life to nursing. She worked relentlessly as an RN in the CCU, ICU, pediatric ICU and ER departments at various hospitals in three different states starting in Minnesota, moving to Boise, McCall, and ending up in Florida.

Marcia was best known by her nickname “Nurse Mayhem” which started approximately 1989, due to the fact that when she arrived at the scene “mayhem” occurred.

Marcia was the co-founder of the Idaho Lupus support group and the Lupus foundation of America/Idaho Chapter in 1990 serving as its first president.

Marcia had the ability to help anyone, at any time, any place and any hour without question.

The house in McCall became everyone’s home. That house had a revolving door and she was there to help anyone who was in need. Marcia “adopted” many people along the course of her life, too many to mention, with that being said, a big thank you to all people who came into her life.

Marcia married her soul mate Dave Bier on July 4, 1999 in McCall. They met in 1990 and became inseparable.

They moved to Rockledge, Fla., in 2002 for health reasons and found that they loved the Sunshine State because of the warmth it provided. Marcia was Dave’s life partner and best friend.

She is survived her husband Dave Bier of Rockledge, Fla. Sons: Jason Hernesman and wife, Amy of St. Paul, Minn., Shane Hernesman, MD, of Merritt Island, Fla., Brenden Shuey of Boise and Joshua Shuey of Rockledge, Fla.
